Asia de Cuba
From Havana to Hanoi
As the name suggests, ‘Asia De Cuba’ the restaurant in St Martins Lane Hotel, London, strives to blend the culture and cuisine of Asia and Cuba.
The brief required an engaging piece of wall art to bring the space to life. The solution was to create a visual interpretation of bringing the two regions together.
Inspired by graphic ephemera of fly posters you might find along the back streets of Havana or Hanoi, a series of ‘mash ups’ were created using found print ephemera. The wall was screeded with rough plasterwork, then each poster was flyposted on top. The resulting lumps, bumps and wrinkles left a feeling of authenticity.
